Are we the ones being trained?!

We have all seen it and probably not realised what has actually happened.

You are enjoying your favourite television programme and suddenly you find your beloved pooch sitting nicely in anticipation, so naturally you run through your mind the things he/she might want and oblige to their request.

So what right?!...That just means they are clever dogs right?!

Well yes, they are clever. Because they are in fact doing the training!

They have reversed the dog trainer roles. Think about it, training is the process of asking for an action in return for something. The dog is asking for a reward in return for sitting nicely.

The more this scenario concludes in favour of the dog, the more said dog will pursue extra rewards.

We are all guilty of this. For example my dog will give me a look and a tail wag lifting one leg to ask for a tickle. I can't ignore her now can I!!

This is why she now wears her human whisperer dog id tag...

It is also the reason why this wooden sign hangs in my kitchen!

At the end of the day, if you the owner are happy with the relationship you have with your dog, then there is no problem with being trained by your dog...Right?!
