Rescuing A Dog - Can A Pet ID Tag Help?

Posted

Rescuing a dog can be a very meaningful and rewarding thing to do. Taking a dog that has been mistreated and giving it a forever home, teaching them to trust again, is such a special thing to be able to offer. Yes, it can be incredibly challenging and, at times, infuriating but the results surely outweigh any negative aspects.

We took in a 7 month old German Shepherd Cross some time ago now and have not regretted it once. Whilst her plight was not as bad as some rescue situations I have heard of, she still had suffered throughout the first few months of her life. When we first brought her home it was as if she had lived here her entire life and fitted in straight away (pooping on the mat within 5 minutes didn’t go down very well though!)

She did, of course, have some issues that needed to be addressed with love and patience. We found that she could be very food aggressive and we had several fights between her and our previously placid British Wolf Dog. We managed to control this within a few weeks and now she is a delight at feeding time. Chewing was a nightmare. We discovered that at her previous home she would literally eat anything for food so it took some time to gently teach her that eating the sofa was wrong! The main issue we found, however, was her shyness. She bonded with us very quickly but didn’t take to kindly to meeting strangers, especially when out and about. We found ourselves having to explain to people that she was ‘a rescue dog’ to which people would respond with a knowing nod and understand her somewhat strange behaviour. We wanted a way of notifying people she was a rescue dog without having to bring the story up all the time. She was a completely different dog to one rescued so didn’t want to dwell on the past, but still felt it was important to ‘warn’ people that may approach her. Rescued Pet ID Tags do just that. They are fun, modern and incredibly practical. There are several designs to choose from, all of which notify strangers that your pet is a rescued one. The flip side of the tag can contain the normal information so your new pet is safe as well.

Rescued Pet ID Tags are a great idea for all doggies that have been rescued and given their forever home. They let people know that, perhaps, your rescued pet may be shy or have a few trust issues. You have made such a special decision in giving a dog a second chance and Rescued Pet ID Tags can help ease the transition from nervous dog to pack leader!!!!
