Picking a Name For Your New Pet

Posted

Working in the pet industry, we have a great insight into the most popular pet names. The name you choose to give your new pet will say so much about you and your pet. Choosing the perfect name for your new addition to your family can also be a great opportunity to show the world how inventive you are and make them wish they had thought of that name! Just think back to the last couple of dog names you heard. Did they suit the pets personality, did they stand out, were they original and was there meaning behind them?

You have to remember that you will be calling out this name for, hopefully, many many years. What you find cute now could change over the years and remember, you will be calling it out in public with other people listening! Also you must take into consider the power a name has. Some names will cause people to judge you and your pet, especially if you have chosen a particularly strong breed. On the other side of the coin, some names will make people feel comfortable and when meeting you and your pet. These are all important things to consider when choosing the perfect pet name.

You need to sit down and decide what is important to you. Do you want your dog to be seen as cute & cuddly or strong & boisterous? Maybe you hate giving human names to dogs or maybe you love it. Do you prefer to give traditional, long lasting names or current & fashionable names? Maybe the name of your new dog is all about the meaning and would like this to be something philosophical or you would like the name to reflect your pet's personality. Many people will have inspiration from the way their pet looks and go with something to do with their coat, colouring, ears, etc. Many people will also find inspirations from popular culture. Maybe you have a favourite singer, TV or film character or you can even see a resemblance between you dog and a famous person!
